| I was looking at the back of my Splenda for bakings bag and saw a recipe for lemonade. 1 c Splenda, 1 c. lemon juice, 5 c. water. Can I have it? Please, please, can I? I can't find anything about lemons in SB. ETA: Found this "Glycemic index experts say that the acid in vinegar or lemon juice can substantially blunt the effect of foods on your blood sugar." ....so I can have lemonade? | yes you can! lemon juice is on the condiments list if you look in the sticky thread food lists. you can also use something like crystal light lemonade mix. just count the calories towards your sweet treat limit. That holds true for that recipe mix too. While splenda is "calorie free" in a teaspoon serving size, it contains 96 calories per cup. So if you drank all 6 cups of that lemonade mix in one day, it would pretty much use up your full sweet treat limit for the day. And in the SB book, he discusses the four "sugar stoppers" of acids, fiber, protein and fats. That's why the meal models are arranged the way there are with balance between those components at major meals and even in snacks and why when you get to P2 an apple for a snack by itself may produce hunger pangs after, but if you have it with cheese (protein) or nuts/nut butters (protein and fats) you can avoid the hunger pangs/cravings. Lemon juice is obviously acidic so falls into that category and why you found that statement about the overall glycemic effect of vinegar or lemon juice. | |||||||||||
