| Hey everyone! im 21 years old and i live in Canada. my brother went on this diet and lost 45lbs. he is my inspiration for wanting to do it. i weigh 290 pounds i also have sleep apnea and high blood pressure, so you can see why id want to lose this excess weight. im so far half way through phase 1 i have lost about 8-9 pounds. but i also work out daily. i just want to know if theres anything i should know while being on this that people have experienced as far as down sides/up sides. thanks -Marco Last edited by rb26marco; 10-26-2008 at 03:41 PM. | ||||||||||

| rb26Marco I just want to welcome you! There is a thread called Newbies supporting Newbies in the Phase 1 section if you are interested in checking in along your journey. I have already finished Phase 1 and lost around 5lbs. It sounds like you are doing very well so far. The most important piece of staying on plan is to plan ahead. If you can do that you will start to make changes that will become a WOL. Glad to hear your brother did so well. I am sure that he has great advice for you as well. Anyway welcome! | ||||||||||

| I think understanding the principles in the book, knowing the food lists, limits and quantity recommendations, and understanding how to put foods together according the meal model guidelines is pretty critical in terms of mechanics. Understanding that it is a process with ups, downs and lots of sideways as part of that process is also helpful in terms of setting expectations properly and just getting mentally prepared that this is pretty much how you have to eat for the rest of your life makes those inevitable setbacks and speedbumps easier to deal with and just keep moving forward. For me personally, there have only been upsides to this program. The downsides I see are just things I need to do to make the upsides possible, so they aren't really downsides to me. They're just what I need to do to be able to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle. | |||||||||||
