Default Cheated and Failed! :(

Hey, I was on here about a week ago, so happy because I was on day 3 and doing so well. Then I cheated, and well, crashed and burned.
I'm starting the diet again tomorrow, with only high hopes and high determination. I felt better about myself in those 3 days, and how I feel now (which is bloated and gassy) is NOT how I want to feel anymore.
So, I'm gonna need lots of support and daily words of encouragement. I'm going to come on here everyday.
Try #2! Wish me LUCK!

Default you can do it!

No reason today isn't your day!
Read as many posts as you can--i spent a lot of time going through the posts that are listed under the Phase 1 boards. They really helped make me think through a lot of challenges before i met them in real life.

Be good to yourself too. I have spent time thinking about non food ways to treat myself--i may not buy a chonga bagel at starbucks now for a treat--but i can get a massage or buy a book.

welcome back!:Hug2:

Hi Miranda (love the name...)

A couple things I'd like to mention, if I could. First of all, I believe the saying "There are no failures, only feedback." (I'd give credit, if I knew to whom I should...) So, please don't call what happened to you a failure. What did you learn from it? (Feedback) Well, you like the way you feel lots better when you eat the South Beach way. And that brings me to the second thing... If you can get your head around the idea that this is not so much a diet as it is a way of living a better life (as evidenced by the way you felt better), it will be easier to continue and make it a life-time goal.

Technically, it is a diet, but so is it a diet when we eat junk food all day. A "diet" is just a term to describe "the usual food and drink consumed by an organism (person or animal)". The term diet in our culture has become loaded with meaning. Mostly, for me it means "deprivation". And deprivation, for me, leads to feelings of resentment. That's a dangerous place for me to be.

Today, I prefer to just call it "the South Beach way of eating" or something like that. For me, it's a way of eating that makes me feel good about myself, physically and emotionally. Okay, getting down off the soapbox now. Good luck to you!!

I decided today wasn't my day because I woke up and ate McDonalds. I feel absolutely disgusting. I bought a book, by Dr Phil's son, and I think it's really helping me get my mind back working properly. It's called, The Ultimate Weight Solution for Teens: The Seven Keys to Weight Freedom. I am following all of the self-help in there, but eating the South Beach way.
In that book, it also mentions finding other ways to treat yourself, other then food. I think I might treat myself to a manicure or pedicure, or a new haircut, or SHOES?! :O
Yes, I am looking forward to this.

Thank You.
I actually got it from the movie "A Cinderella Story" with Hilary Duff. I've always loved the quote, I have it painted on my wall.

I suppose you are right in saying that my experience wasn't a failure so much as it was something to learn from. I've been through a lot in my life, so I understand that one must never regret things they have done, but to embrace them, learn from them, and grow from them.
From this, I learned to be strong, and to not let one little set-back set you ALL the way back. I have to have determination, and will-power. I agree also, with what you said about the term and use of the word diet. All of those sugary snacks I ate, can be classified as a "diet" as well. Saying a "way of living" is much better then saying "new diet".
I know how annoyed my friends get when I tell them "I'm on a new diet!" They're eyes roll so far into the back of their heads I'm surprised they don't get stuck there! :P
Diets, annoy me too. I hate having to watch what I eat, count calories, reduce this, cut out that, NEVER EVEN touch that, etc etc. To me, that's too complicated. I have a very busy life, and I cannot be bothered with counting out calories, carbs, etc, from nutrition labels. That just doesn't work for me. Never has, and I doubt it ever will.
Thank you for the advice, and the for some things to consider while I'm on this adventure, journey, experience, whatever one feels like calling it.
Also, Thank you for the compliment on my name..I've never been very partial to it, I find myself never being able to find personalized pens...
Thanks for the wishes of good luck also.

Well Miranda - it looks like you are headed in the right direction. With the right mindset. And THAT my friend - is where life begins. When you have your head in the game. It is way too easy to flounder and fall when you aren't all in. So keep your head up, your eye on the goal and keep swiinging. You'll strike out a few - but you'll also hit some. The more you keep at it - the better your average until your getting a hit every time.

You did not fail. This diet is based on behavior miodification and this takes time. Take it one day, one step at a time. You said one special thing, how "you did it for 3 days and how good you felt". Think about that next time a temptation falls your way. If by chance you do have something that is not totally beachy, start that moment.
