Default Need HELP with a recipe!!

I want to make the vegetable beef soup tomorrow from one of the cookbooks. I want to do it in the crockpot. How do I adapt the recipe to use in a crockpot? Are you supposed to use more fluid or less fluid?/ The recipe calls for 5 cups of water. Thanks,

Kelly

I'm not really sure. If the crockpot is large enough for all 5 cups and all the other ingredients I would use all 5 cups as it is a soup and is supposed to be a broth anyway. Maybe do a search on crockpot soup recipes and see if they have any hints or you can glean some info on how to make a soup in a crockpot? Does the soup recipe say to cook covered or uncovered? If uncovered, then they are expecting it to reduce and concentrate in a smaller amount of liquid and you could probably take some liquid out then as the crockpot will minimize evaporation and reduction. If it's normally cooked covered, then I would think volumes of liquids would be roughly comparable. But again, that's just my logical analysis, not based on any real knowledge of cooking soups in a crockpot.

Thanks. I did a google search and I think that I do need to reduce the liquid by 1/4 as it will not evaporate in the crockpot. Good analysis. I thought that as well but since I won't be home while it is cooking, I did NOT want to take a chance!

If I was being more bold, I would have said reduce by 20% to 4 cups if it said to cook uncovered. so was close! not bad for a guy!

I have actually tried 3 different recipes from the cookbooks in the last 3 days. Monday was Big Easy Shrimp -LOVED it, Tuesday was the Reuben Wraps, also excellent and today will be the Vegetable Beef Soup ala crockpot. I will have to let you know how it turns out!
