| Hi everyone! My name is Kim and I am a runner (hence the login name!). I had success prior to having my 2nd daughter on SBD and due to some laziness I have succumbed to bad eating habits and a 15lb weight gain despite my running so I am back to SBD for a lifestyle change with how I regard food (and to kick my sugar cravings). I am currently on D3 of P1 and my question is this...I run 6 miles a day 4 days a week and then I do a 10 mile or longer run on the weekends for 1 day. I feel very depleated of energy over the past few days and I understand that its the science of my body chemistry changing but I am concerned that I am not going to consume enough complex carbs in P1 to support my longer distance running. Can anyone shed some light as to whether I should skip P1 or not? I am eating beans and nuts and the like but still had a hard time even getting 2 miles in this morning. I am looking to lose 15 lbs. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/south-beach-diet-forums-phase-1/2297-long-distance-running-skipping-phase-i.html Thanks, Kim | |||||||||||

| Hi Kim and :Welcome: I'm not a runner, never liked it, so I can't speak from experience with that part of the program. But, from what I have read and from my experience, my suggestion would be that skipping Phase 1 cannot hurt you. Try it. You can always do Phase 1 later if you notice that your cravings are still there. You don't have that much to lose, it could be just what you need to do... Good luck, whatever way you choose! Please let us know how it goes. | |||||||||||

| Thanks. I'm doing so well on P1 with the water weight loss that I decided to just suck it up and stick out the 2 weeks anyway. | |||||||||||

| I'm a cyclist who gained weight after being off the bike for more than a year with an injury. It's been a long haul trying to get fit with the weight I've gained. With the restrictions on Phase One it's been tough to do my long rides of 2 hours or more so on my really long rides I've said forget it and do some comsume simple carbs, but only these long rides. I also drink Cytomax doing these rides which would be a big no-no for phase one. But, comsuming these carbs has helped me get thought the rides without bonking or hitting the wall. Once after the ride go straight back to phase one. I've only lost 4 pounds so for on phase one with a two days left to go so consuming simple carbs on the long rides has probably kept be from the big weight loses you get on phase one. So you might try just adding a small simple carb snack or meal before you do your long run of 10 miles or more. Good luck with your running. | ||||||||||
