| SO yesterday I was in such a flurry of packing and traveling to get back to my school in DC that I really didnt eat that much, or get a chance too. I was panicking slightly because I had mixed up my flight times and didnt have time to pack a snack and ended up really over paying for a sandwich at the airport and then having to eat the insides while staring at the pile of bread growing next to me lol. I did it but today I didnt get a chance to go grocery shopping till later in the day so Im just getting a chance to eat after running errands all over the place. Im wondering if im doing myself more bad then good by not eating alot of the small meals that SB calls for? im going to get it together tomorrow with the snacks and things but now... I just dont have an appetite? Is this normal? | |||||||||||

| I think everyone can be different on this. I am hungry every few hours, so it is easy for me to eat that often. That probably isn't much help. | ||||||||||

| There are several reasons for eating 3 meals and 2-3 snacks per day. Skipping breakfast is probably the worst thing you can do for instance and a number of studies have shown that those who eat breakfast tend to be much thinner than those who skip it. The goal is to keep your metabolism fueled and running efficiently. When you cut out meals and lower your caloric intake by too much, your body starts to compensate by lowering your metabolic rate to preserve fat since it may think you are going into a "lean" period with little food available. So by eating something frequently we actually are sending signals to our body, that the food thing is well taken care of and it can afford to let go of the stored fat it doesn't need as much anymore. In addition, it keeps blood sugar levels stable and avoids blood sugar spikes and crashes with tend to create sharp hunger pangs. And then of course there's that whole "weak" thing too! ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/south-beach-diet-forums-phase-1/2347-number-meals.html I understand life gets in the way. We spent all day yesterday in multiple airports and I didn't have a lot of good snacks available. Just do the best you can on a temporary situation like this and then get back into the SB swing of things as quickly as you can when you are able! | |||||||||||

| Call me crazy, but I keep a can of peanuts in my car and a snack size bag in my purse...just for this purpose...who can't find time for a handfull of peanuts?...Sitting in traffic...waiting at an airport?...I think eating every 3 hours is the biggest key to SB...RedRox took the words right outta my mouth on this one with his answer...well, almost...Red uses bigger words and I feel he's a bit more ed-u-ma-cated in his vocabulary than I...lol | |||||||||||

| Nothing sunflower seeds and a bottle of V-8 won't cure. I found myself in this situation yesterday (got dragged into the office) and I never realized all the "junk food" that sits on the shelves, tempting and teasing you to buy when all you want is veggie juice and a low/no sugar snack. It is downright ghastly concluding that that "healthy" label is downright deceptive. | |||||||||||

| "The secret is" for you to find what will work for YOU! :Hug1: We are all different. We all have different lifestyles. If you don't like the suggestions in the book or on the web, well, find how you can get the veggies in that you believe you need. Don't drink V-8 if it makes you gag. Don't buy cabbage and let it rot in the back of the fridge. What veggie do you like? Start with that and find new ways of getting it in. Your tastebuds are going to change too, the longer you do this, BTW. Maybe you'll learn to like (or even love) V-8 someday. Make this plan work for you, that's my secret and I'm sticking to it. | |||||||||||

| Thanks Jilly! It has been awhile since I did try it. So, I might pick one up and try it. We will see how it goes. The sad thing is that I am not a HUGE fan of veggies. I am very simple when it comes to them. I like green beans, celery, cucumbers and broccoli. That is about it. I am sure I might like others, but I just keep it simple I guess!! I need to keep things as simple as possible, since I have the daycare with 6 kids staring at me all day! | ||||||||||

| I'm a big fan of "keeping it simple". Nothing wrong with that. Just mix them up and don't get bored would be my only suggestion... | |||||||||||
