| Hi all - one of my GF's is SOOO impressed with the results of South Beach that she has gone on some crazy idea (don't know who put that idea in her head Buuut .. shes a vegetarian and I'm not sure how her results will be! (I mean everyones different so it will work differently for other ppl) Any ideas where she can get her protein from outside of meat? (nuts?) And has anyone known anyone who's a vegetarian who has done this? I'd love to see her succeed!! ~MD

| There's a list of meat substitutes in the foods list for a range of non-meat possibilities. If she consumes dairy at all, cottage cheese is a very high quality protein. In P2, quinoa as a starch is a nearly complete protein. Beans in all phases are a lower quality protein, but available as well. The problem with beans is that they are more calorie dense and if overconsumed can hinder weight loss. If she consumes eggs, those work too! This from a daily dish on vegetarian beachers: Quote:
Note the rest of that article is mostly an ad for the vegetarian part of their official paid site which may be something she might want to consider to get started. I think they require a minimum 3 month membership though to prevent people from joining, getting the info and leaving. | |||||||||||

| How about tofu? Will tofu work? I can't remember if the carbs are high but I am pretty sure it's zero sugar. Eggs are always good but there are some vegetarians, I guess vegans that don't do eggs. Cottage cheese is a great choice, edamame, and black beans are some of my protein dense non meat foods. Let us know how she does | ||||||||||
