Default Who is exercising and what does your work out look like?

Hi all

I am down for the count! Phase 1 is over in just 4 days...I haven't weighed myself since last Saturday but I have lost 4.5 pounds my first week.

I was wondering who on the boards are exercising? And what does your workout look like?

I have noticed I don't have as much energy as I would like - comparing to when I am able to eat oatmeal for breakfast. I am really looking forward to adding my oatmeal in next week. I figure I will just start wout with 1/4 cup for breakfast (dry measurement) and see how that goes.

I haven't been doing as much cardio as I would like but I have been lifting weights and getting on the treadmill or the bike for an additional 20 minutes. not much but I think that's why I have lost weight much faster than on any other diet. I have definitely been eating plenty of food. I am not hungry - ever. I don't even let myself get to that point.

Just interested in seeing what everyone is doing for exercise?

So far I haven't done anything however, I want to start a routine at our neighborhood gym which I am a member. Probably I will do about 15 minutes on the elyptical sp? to warm up and then move through some weight machines for a total of 45 minutes. I will try to do this 4-5 times/wk.

I walk 2-4 miles at least 5 days a week and do the 100 push ups program.

I didn't start moving my toosh until I made it to Phase 2. I knew "too many changes" at once would lead to my failure. I added the treadmill when I started Phase 2 (which was just this past weekend). I've walked on it twice (I did catch up logmyloss! Thanks for the words of encouragement!!!) starting at 15 min. intervals to get back into the groove before I start training (and I kid you not) - to be able to walk a 5k

When I get comfie adding the treadmill back regularly I plan to add my Wii Fit.

Check out logmyloss.com's (logmyloss.com) website - he has links to the "Couch Tater - Run 5k" and the 100 push up plan!

I really did not get serious about exercising til I was about 4 weeks into the program. I have a goal of 5 times week. Now when I get off work(I do shifts), most times at 7pm I go straight for the gym and do 45 min treadmill, 20 min exercycle, 30 min elliptical. I only recently started working out with weights so I try for every other day or 3x week. When I'm home I do the cp5k program which is(couch potato to 5k program) I'm on week 4 of the 12 week program and I really love it, believe at first I thought I was crazy for attempting it. I avoided exercise for as long as possible! I waited until my first real significant stall a few months into P2. Plus ski season was approaching and I thought it would be good to get in shape for that for a change so I enrolled in a ski/sports conditioning program at my gym. It was basically a combo cardio/resistance interval type program which alternated weight/movement stations (so not just forearm curls for instance, but doing step ups while doing curls) with cardio activities like running, doing laps of deep lunges, stationary bike and so forth. (Without having seen the new "Supercharged" exercise program it is my understanding that it is also a combined cardio/resistance interval based exercise program, so perhaps similar in intent and design if not in the actual exercises and execution.) It helped me move past the stalls and did help with my skiing that year as well. About 6 months later (with the gym in it's death throes and going out of business) I found heated power vinyasa yoga and that has been my sole form of "exercise" while in maintenance mode. It's more than that, but it fulfills that component as well.

Red - since you seem to be our resident expert - how did you go about finding a yoga studio? There are a few in my area and honestly I'm scared stiff (Ha! No pun intended) of trying. Yoga has many benefits and has always been something I've been intrested in.

I went with a guy at work who dragged several of us along on a lunch hour, so I didn't really do any work to find it! I really liked it there and it's a big chain of studios in the area so I liked that it had lots of classes and a number of studios and your membership was good anywhere in their system. (Kind of like the 24 hour fitness gym vs. the independent private gym model.)

What I would recommend is to stop by and talk with someone there. I know our studio gives a week free to new students which is very generous, but most places will at least give you your first class free. (And maybe ask if they don't offer! ) There are many different styles of yoga (it's almost a meaningless term to me by itself anymore) and many different styles of teachers and studios. So I would ask them about pricing, styles, what classes they offer that would work best for a beginner and if they have a particular instructor they would recommend for your first class. Take a quick tour if they have the time or ask if you can poke around the place and check it out a bit. (They likely won't let you into the actual practice studio if there is a class in session.) Just try to get a sense of the place and the people and whether it speaks to you. Try a class at each studio and see which one you like best overall. Most I think would offer "punch cards" for discounts on multiple classes and I know ours offers a monthly membership for unlimited yoga. Me, I just clean one of their studios one night a week in trade for "free" yoga. You might also ask about whether mats are included or rented for $ and if important to you, whether they have showers and locker room facilities. The style I do I am a puddle of sweat by the time I am done and my yoga clothes are soaking wet. I like to shower after that and many smaller studios just don't have the space for that kind of set-up. But many also don't need it if it is a slower, non-heated style and you just come out with a little "sheen" and can drive home without needing to shower and change.

And avoid "Dahn Yoga" centers. Have read some goofy stuff about them which I am not sure whether to believe or not, but they sound strange to me!

Also feel free to PM me if you have any questions about particular styles or anything about the individual studios that you might have questions about. I'm more than happy to give my opinion!! LOL!!!

I walk on the treadmill using the interval idea recommended in the Supercharged book. My "sort of" goal is every day, but, because I have had such a hard time with all-or-nothing thinking and behavior, this is where I have really made progress. As I said, my goal is every day, but when that doesn't happen (about twice a week), then I don't worry about it. This has worked really well for me. I don't feel like I'm a failure when I don't get to it. I just start again the next day with the goal of getting to it if I can. So, it's typically about 5 days a week of walking. Yesterday I added sit-ups and push-ups at the end of my walk. Progress, not perfection...
