What do you order when dining out?

I need some fall backs to rely on when I suddenly find myself out to dinner or lunch. What do you typically order when out? I don't want to fall back into my old eating pattern of fries and ruebens!

It seems like almost everywhere has a grilled chicken caesar salad these days. If I can't find anything else on the menu, I can always eat one of those and skip the croutons.

Veggies and protein (fish, chicken or beef). The plainer, the better...

If I know where I will be going I will research thier menu. Most chains except for texas roadhouse put thier menus online. I too will order either beef or chicken or fish. Grilled, non breaded and plain.

If you can't get a meat "plain" always ask for the sauce or toppings on the side. A lot of the places I've been to have been more then accommodating regarding this. Applies to salad dressing as well.

We've dined out at our local Mexican place a few times. They have a fajita salad (fajita grilled meat served on a bed of greens with tomatoes, onions, cheese, and dressing). They always hold the chips (which is standard at this place), plus I get the cheese and dressing on the side.

They may look at you funny - but most places are willing to adapt to serve the customer.
