| Hello to all, I would like to know if cottage cheese, and ricotta cheese are counted for as dairy or protien. The reason why i ask because i usually have a cup of milk and one of yogurt. Also i read in another forum that in phase one you should avoid yogurt and milk, is this correct. How many sweetners may you have a day, i think i might be having too much, i use two with my cup of milk, one with yogurt, and one with the ricotta " by the way i love this ricotta thing", 1 drink of crystal light at dinner and maybe a sugar free treat during the day like jello, popscicle or fudgecicle. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/south-beach-diet-forums-phase-1/4503-questions-about-dairy.html Thanks oh by the way i started on sunday 22nd had gained 1.5 pounds | ||||||||||

| Cottage cheese, ricotta cheese and all cheeses are counted as proteins for SB purposes. Cottage cheese is a very high quality protein as well. The very first release of the SB diet limited dairy in P1, but it has been allowed up to 2 cups since March of 2003 I think. It contains good carbs/sugars that help keep you out of ketosis and help with energy levels and is a good healthy P1 option to include for a number of reasons if you want to include it. (Some don't and some can't.) Cheeses are their own category in the foods lists following all the other protein sources and are not included at all under the Dairy category, so the standard assumption is that cheeses would not be dairy or they would be listed under dairy instead of being listed along with the other proteins at the top of the list. If others make different assumptions, then those are their personal assumptions. None of the three SB forums I am a member of include cheese as part of dairy but only as a protein. They all also tend to recommend watching quantities and don't feel they are quite as "unlimited" as other lean proteins, but there are no hard and fast guidelines on cheese consumption. It's whatever works for you. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/showthread.php?t=4503 Sweeteners are a personal choice. No more than 75-100 calories per day from sweet treats. Even splenda has a small amount of calories. Last edited by RedRox; 02-25-2009 at 07:32 PM. | |||||||||||
