![]() Okay, well... my mom is a big fan of vitamins, so we have a whole bunch of them and she's always trying to get me to take them. I started the diet on April 7th, and I lost 5 pounds before the first week was even up. Then, about a week ago I started taking vitamins EVERY day... and my weight loss stopped, even though I was following the diet to a T and never cheated once, and I'm even doing two hours a day on the Gazelle now. Guess what I noticed today... the SELENIUM that I've been taking is mostly YEAST... and it contains CORN STARCH! UGHHH I swear! Tomorrow was going to be day 14, but now I'm going to add on another two weeks and leave the selenium OUT of my vitamins from now on. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/south-beach-diet-forums-phase-1/5646-thanks-selenium-im-starting-phase-one-over-ughhhh.html This is just so upsetting because I've been working so hard and all I get is 5 little pounds gone. All because of a stupid vitamin. It ticks me off because I read about all these other people who lose 10+ pounds and my loss stopped after the first week at only 5 pounds. One girl on my live journal group claims to have lost 20 pounds in phase one. Sigh...

| I personally would probably not do another 2 weeks of P1. The goal of P1 is not rapid weight loss and those who lose weight the quickest are not necessarily the most successful in terms of long term weight managment. I doubt there was enough corn starch in the vitamins to matter much. You don't know if you would have stopped at 5 lbs or not after the first week anyway which is a very typical pattern. Weight loss is neither linear, predictable nor comparable, so stop worrying about what others on that lj group are losing. You are not in a race with anyone or even with yourself. The goal is to change your diet, eat healthily for life and to lose weight slowly over time while rebuilding your relationship with food to the point where you don't need to be "dieting", but simply eating to support your health and activity levels. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/showthread.php?t=5646 Personally it sounds like you are right on track and ready to start transtioning to P2. Five pounds is great. Always celebrate your successes. Go to the store and pick up a 5 lb bag of sugar. It's substantial. Don't minimize your accomplishments or compare yourself to others. Just be the best you that you can be. Slow and steady wins the "race", not that there really is a race at all! In my observations, the people who fall by the wayside the quickest are those playing the "expectations" game the most. That's what creates the most frustration. You should be happy and ecstatic at the first 5 lbs on your lifelong journey to health and wellness and instead you are frustrated and envious of others. That's really not an optimum situation to be in for long term success. | |||||||||||

I don't think your vitamins had anything to do with it. I would not weigh more than every two weeks, honestly it can drive you nuts. I weighed 191.5 Saturday when i got up...i was kinda upset about that so i weighed later in the day and i was 189 so....yeah...you might go a week and not see any loss on a scale and then the next week ALOT comes off.

| Well, today was supposed to be the start of my phase two. When I started phase one I was at 235.4 and then today first thing this morning I weighed myself and the scale said 229.8 - so I've lost 5.6 pounds. I'm staying on phase one another two weeks. I NEVER cheated during these two weeks and I have been exercising like crazy (two hours a day on the Gazelle - about 8 miles a day). I HAVE to get this weight off. | |||||||||||

5.6 pounds for a women is not that bad, and it may be more..an hour later you could have weighed a pound less..i know..crazy... keep in mind exercise promotes muscle growth, although you are doing a good cardio workout and not using heavy weights I am assuming. muscle weighs 3x as much as fat. if your not cheating, eating well, exercising then the weight will come off. as you get older it takes longer. when i was 20ish i could lose 20 pounds in a month before summer hit , now..no way..lol..maybe 8 pounds a month at best.. the bottom line is your getting healty, the weight will come off , give it time..never give up..this is a life time thing..not a passing fad... i seriously would not weigh more than every other week if you want to maintain your sanity......

| FWIW, P1 is neither designed to be the punishment phase or the weight loss phase and there is no guarantee in the long run that you will lose more quickly by staying in P1 for 4 weeks. | |||||||||||

![]() Really, you could be adding muscle (which is good) which explains why you aren't losing as much weight as you expect having exercised so much. There is a lot of protein on this plan.

Phase one is not designed for rapid weight loss. There are fad diets that get the weight off quickly, the only problem is they are diets and they don't work in the long run. Good physical health doesnt come easily or quickly, doesnt come in a bottle. All attempts to quickly be beautiful again are futile. Its simply going to take time. Just know that by exercising and eating healthy you will start getting healthier and healthier and that will translate to a slimmer you.

| If you did not gain the weight over night or over a week why be in such a hurry to get it off. If it is suppose to be a change in lifestyle that should take time. Exercising will add muscle which weighs more than fat. Don't loose the weight loose the FAT. The more muscle you have the faster you metabolism will get which helps your body take care of the fat. I know you may already know most of this but just in case.... | |||||||||||
