As far as portion control, what I have found that works for me is simply smaller plates. Not saucer size, what I found in the summer dinner wear section of the store were some small plastic plates. They are smaller than dinner plates and when you put smaller portions on them the plate is still full. Its a visual thing. It helps me.

    Default late night munchies

i know what you mean, i stay up late at night, hours after eating dinner. nobody expects you to go to bed hungry, try to eat an all protein snack late at night if you can. hard boiled egg or something.

peanuts actually satisfy the sweet urges and are not terrible in moderation.

Smile First day.... happy and ready!

I'm ready fo this but worried that Thanksgiving is around the corner. What should i eat on TD? I just want my sugar craving to go away. The first time I was in SB i lost 40 pounds. I know that I can do it! But I don't know if I should wait after Thansgiving Day and Christmas and start January 1st.

Start now, enjoy the white meat turkey and as many veggies as you can eat. Keep gravy, stuffing, breads and desserts to a minimum. Enjoy the company and the occasion of gratitude more than the food!

Default Is this forum still active

Hey everyone, This is my first day on the SBD and I was hoping that i could find lots of encouraging words here. I already want a bagel or some toast. I have only been into this for so many hours. I am not going to give up. I hear it only gets harder before it gets easier. Any suggestions

    Default Chocoholic

I just recently started college, and there's a vending machine full of chocolate-y goodies right down the hall in my dorm building. All I have to do is dig out a dollar, run over to the machine and grab a Snickers bar, and then run away and eat it before I have time to feel guilty! Not to mention, the Starbucks on campus (where my favorite drink is a fattening chocolate blended coffee with whipped cream on top, naughty!) is close enough to walk to in two minutes... I'm addicted to that as well.
Well, I'm starting South Beach for the second time (it worked marvelously the first time) and I am having INTENSE chocolate temptation every day. I have to find a way to stop this overindulgence, and I've been good so far- but I'm only on my 2nd day of the diet.

Luckily, my school has a great selection of healthy foods (lean lunch meat, grilled chicken, baked chicken... pretty South Beachy) and a full salad bar (with dark greens as an option, yay!) to choose from.

I am just afraid that this chocolate thing is going to be my downfall.
I saw that the South Beach Diet site sent out an email today with a recipe for a chocolate drink that's suitable for Phase 1! Unfortunately, though, I don't have any unsweetened cocoa powder handy. I wonder if using a little regular hot cocoa mix would be too naughty... I think it probably would be. *sigh*.

Are there any other chocoholics out there?

the no sugar added fudge pops are another alternative, but yeah ix-nay on the regular hot cocoa. needs to be no sugar added as well if it is using dried milk in the powder. (the dried milk in it would contain sugars so it can't be sugar free.)
