Smile Chickpeas as a Veggie or Snack

I'm new to SB and I have a question regarding Chickpeas. I roast chickpeas with different seasonings and was wondering if I eat them in roasted form, can I use them as a veggie or a snack? Does it matter? Since they're roasted they kind of taste like nuts depending how long you take the roasting time to and is a great alternative instead of eating nuts as a snack.

Doesn't really matter. You can count your beans (chickpeas are part of the beans/legumes category) towards your minimum 4.5 cups of veggies per day, but bean servings should be limited to 1/3 - 1/2 cup per serving, although multiple servings during the day are OK. And that measurement is before they shrink as part of the roasting process, so kind of figure out how many cups are there total in what you roast before you roast them and then that will give you an idea of how many servings you should be getting out of a batch. FWIW, I think beans/legumes are really sort of the "secret weapon" of SB. While they are more calorie and carbohydrate rich than other vegetables, they really help with satiety and in P1 are a really good source of P1 carbs when other sources are more limited.

Thumbs up Chickpea's Veggie or Snack

Thanks for your reply. I know about the portion size but thnx for the reminder. They seem to fill me up more than just having a salad altho sometimes I add them to salad straight from the can after being rinsed. The possibilities are endless regarding roasting them because you can be imaginative as far as the switching the seasonings up. Anyway, this is Day 3 for me and I'm hoping I don't get too bored missing those carbs, time will tell but trying to be strong!

I agree about them being more filling. A fave of mine was a mix of black beans, diced tomato and green pepper and salsa heated in a micro in the late afternoon as that was always my "hungry zone" time of the day and most other snacks just never cut it in terms of holding me until dinner which was often later in our house.

And you still should be getting plenty of carbs!
