| I absolutely loooove my eggs with salsa and sourcream in the AM and I have been having it every AM since 4/1/06. But I have had a couple of people mention the correlation between eggs and cholesterol. Previously my Dr. has mentioned that mine was a little high. Should I switch to the egg beaters? I thought I had read in the book that the eggs were okay everyday, but then I read on the website that I should only to do it I think a couple times a week. (don't remember the exact amount) So, now I'm a little concerned. I thought this diet would help my cholesterol? I certainly don't mind the egg beaters, but they are little more expensive. :Sarcastic: Thanks for your help! Linda | ||||||||||

| Supposedly new studies are out that say eggs are ok everyday -- unless you are already on cholesterol medication and even then it might be ok now but I'd prefer to get a medical doctor to tell you that. It was found that the original study that negatively portrayed eggs as bad for your cholesterol was a flawed study. The old study had the medical industry in a tizzy and all doctors were recommending we shouldn't eat eggs more than 3x per week. That is no longer the mantra. It is true that eggs contain a higher amount of dietary cholesterol than many other foods, but their dietary cholesterol is not the same as your blood cholesterol. Most doctors will tell you it's ok to eat eggs everyday. My doctor is conservative (he hated it when I was on Atkins, but likes that I'm on SB) but even he says eggs are ok everyday. Your cholesterol lipids, blood pressure and tryglicerides should improve by being on this diet if you are not cheating. I would keep eating the way you've been until it's time to have another cholesterol screening by your doctor and see what those results are. If your cholesterol remains high and you've been eating as healthy as you have been on this diet, then your cholesterol problem will not be related to diet, but rather to genetic factors. Then if this happens, I would switch to egg beaters. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/south-beach-diet-forums-phase-1/702-eggs-breakfast.html Give the diet a chance to work for you. It takes a couple of months for your cholesterol to improve. Saturated fat and trans fats are the worst enemies for your blood profile. They tend to clog arteries and dangerously raise triglyceride levels. But on this diet you are doing a great job in reducing your exposure to these bad boys. I hope this helps | ||||||||||

| My guess is that the website doesn't want to endorse eating eggs everyday because people who shouldn't eat eggs everyday upon their doctor's advice could say that the SB diet told them to do it. Make sure you keep tabs on your progress and if you still have cholesterol issues, mind what your doctor tells you to do. He/she might say eggs are fine. | ||||||||||

| Eggs are actually good for you, contrary to what we once believed. Eggs have a neutral-to-favorable effect on cholesterol. Even the yolk has vitamin E and other important nutrients. Studies by the Harvard School of Public Health show that eating seven eggs a week is fine. But they only studied eating seven eggs per week and that's why in some of the SB recipes calling for eggs ....... they use an egg substitute. It's up to each individual on whether they want to use Egg Beaters or whole eggs. And of course, you'll want to listen to your doctor's advice. | |||||||||||

| As soon as the effects of internal cholesterol were discovered, many studies were conducted and they proved that consumption of cholesterol has no effect on your internal cholesterol level. Your body produces 2000mg of cholesterol per day because your body needs it. Just as more protein consumption does not increase your muscle, and more fat consumption does not directly increase your fat, cholesterol consumption does not increase your cholesterol level. Just as we are learning that margarine was a poor substitute for butter, I think many will soon conclude that egg beaters is a poor substitute for eggs. | ||||||||||
