Default Honey

Is honey allowed? In moderation of course but to sweeten things? say tea..
or salad dressing? The label says no carbs.... but it has honey in it?

:Welcome: :Welcome:

I'm sorry, but honey isn't an allowed sweetener on phases one or two. The South Beach Diet does not recommend honey as a sweetener until Phase 3. Honey is a sugar so be sure to monitor your response for the return of any cravings. In Phase 3 there are no absolute restrictions, but honey does have a high glycemic index. If you have it liberally, it can certainly be fattening, even though it is a natural substance.

We don't necessarily count carbs on this plan. The reason honey isn't allowed is because it ranks high on the glycemic index chart. But, just curious, according to my calculations honey has 17 carbs per tablespoon. What exactly is it that you have that has honey in it, but doesn't have any carbs listed?

You need to stick to foods that contain 3 grams of sugar or less. Honey has much more than that so it's a sugar overload. Have you tried Splenda to sweeten your tea? No aftertaste........and tastes good.....
