| Hi all....started day one today...I just had enough eggs, beef, veggies, left for today so I need to do some serious shopping. I've been looking at alot of menu ideas from posters on what they eat. Just wondering if Chilli is allowed on P1 and can I get canned or do I have to make it fresh. I am not soo good at cooking besides what I can throw in microwave, but it seems from looking around the board, that some good ideas have been coming from making recipes. One another question...are refried beans allowed on P1? Can wait to really begin this new woe!! I just had for snack a cucumber cut up with dressing (1gr of sugar...for 5 sprays). Hope that was ok. Wish me luck!!! Tracy | ||||||||||

| Tracy, I don't know of any canned brands of chili that are OK. Definitely, you can make a good one for yourself. Same with refried beans, you'd have to make your own. Of course, just watch portions & ingredients. There's a good Phase 1 veggie chili recipe in one of the SBD books. I'm afraid I can't suggest just what you could throw into the microwave. (I'm not much of a cook either!) I can usually alter things from a recipe. You could save portions for the future if you make a recipe. It's best to go by the salad dressing guidelines. Good plan, to go shopping & make sure you have the right things at home. Good start !!!! Keep up the good work!! | ||||||||||

| Thanks! I loaded up on veggies, so that should help fill me. I got lean beef chunks, fat free cheeses, ff sour cream and ff cottage cheese, as well as FF Plain Yogurt. I believe I read on here that someone puts a little crystal light packaging to the yogurt to give it flavor. I may have to try that! LOL I also read where someone combined the beef, salsa (although I thought most had sugar) and sour cream. That sounded yummy!! LOL Thanks for the advise. I'm gonna see if I can find the veggie chili recipe! Day one is almost over! :joy: | ||||||||||

| I believe salsa is fine if the ingredients don't list ADDED sugar. The search function, along the bar on the top, works good I think. I typed in salsa and sugar & got some postings. I'm sure other folks on the board can give you other ideas. | ||||||||||

| Tray, if beef and salas sound good to you, try the black bean and salas soup that luv2bike posted. It is sssssooooooooo awesome and quick to cook. I adore it. Let me see if I can find the recipe. http://www.sbdbb.com/showthread.php?t=230

| Probably due to overprocessing. Most canned refried beans are full of saturated fat from beef tallow. But in your case, you say you found a fat free brand. First you want to check the fiber content. Beans are fairly high in fiber so if the serving says less than 3 grams it's overly processed. Actually beans start at around 6 grams and higher so even if it says 3, it's highly processed. The higher processed a food is, the more it acts like sugar in your system. Secondly, check the sodium content. A lot of canned refried beans are loaded with excess sodium. You really want to watch that or you will retain a lot of water from the excess salt. The fact that it is fat free is a good thing, though we are allowed to eat limited portions of good for you fats on this plan. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/south-beach-diet-forums-phase-1/900-chilli-phase-1-a.html If it passes these tests, it's probably ok since it is fat free. But if it does say it has .5 grams of trans fat per serving, then it is not trans fat free (even if the label says it is) because companies can claim it has no trans fat if under a gram per serving. Tricky!! | ||||||||||

| I've seen them in the stores before, but haven't tried them yet. The web site says that canned fat free refried beans are fine. The serving size is 1/3 to 1/2 of a cup. | |||||||||||
