Default Japanese Food on Phase 1?

I just started back on Phase 1 yesterday, June 19. I've been invited to dinner at a Japanese restaraunt, tomorrow night and I really want to go... but, I don't want to go and ruin my 2 weeks. Does anybody have any suggestions for what I could have if I did go? I know that chicken would be okay, but what kind? Any suggestions would be extremely helpful... I'm not going if I can't have anything good, because I'm afraid temptation might get the best of me.
Thanks- Brandi

Other people know much more than me, but there should be alot that's fine.

Just watch for sugar in things

Guidelines I've seen:
tofu (1/2 cup suggested serving)
tempeh (1/4 cup suggested serving)
shoyu (1/2 TBSP)
miso (1/2 TBSP)
soy sauce (1/2 TBSP)
tamari
edamame
seiten
sashimi
seafood

Hey- thanks. I think I will go ahead and go. There are lots of things I can probably have and still "be good". Thank you.

Do you eat sushi? If so, there are a lot of things you can eat.

Start with an edamame appetizer
Then have sashimi (sushi without the rice). If they serve it with rice, tell them to hold the rice. Any fish you want is an acceptable sashmi.

Another appetizer I like conch with kimchee sauce. It's slices of conch with cucumbers and a spicy sauce (no sugar in it).

If you are not eating raw sushi then the stir fried vegetables is a sure winner and any meat on a stick. Watch out for teryaki sauces though, they contain sugar!

I think you'll do great.

Thanks Mindy! I normally do not eat seafood, however, I think I may try it tonight. What is edamame? I really gotta start getting out more (LOL). Thanks for the ideas. I love Japanese food... it's my favorite! I've just never eaten it while trying to diet (ha ha). Thanks again. I'm gonna stay strong.

Edamame is soy beans in their shell. Usually they are boiled or steamed and some salt or even sesame seeds are sprinkled over the shells. They get addictive to nibble on....

Yes- I'm getting excited about going just talking about all of this food (LOL)! I read up on some of the things that were suggested and I'm looking forward to it. Yes, everything I read about Edamame says that they are good for snacking on. Ya'all wish me luck... I'm going to use my willpower to not over do it or have anything that is not allowed. Thanks for your help. Hopefully, I won't be invited to dinner again for at least another 2 weeks... so that I can finish out my 2 weeks (LOL).

Well- I'm back from the Japanese restaurant. I didn't do as well as I'd wanted, but I don't think I did too bad. I started with a salad. I had chicken with Teryaki sauce and steamed veggies. And I did have a few bites of the noodles (they weren't even that great). Anyhow, thanks for all the help. I guess I will just avoid Japanese when on Phase 1.

The great thing about SBD is that this can be viewed as a learning experience (as it sounds like you're doing). If something doesn't go so well, you can look at what went wrong and plan how to correct it the next time you go Japanese.

Because when you go to Phase 2, you're still going to have the same basic challenges.

Keep up the good work, Brandi.

BTW, I saw that there are serving guidelines for shoyu, miso, and soy sauce, which are all counted as condiments. I added amts to post above.
