Default Can we have regular cheese?

Hi everyone! My Husband and I are getting ready to start the south beach diet. I went shopping today at the local Wal-mart super center and could not find low fat cheese (except for cheese sticks). My question is... Can we use regular cheese? Or will that stop weight loss? I don't thing the regular cheese has high carbs, but I"m not sure. I just don't want string cheese with everything! Any ideas where I can find low fat cheese?

Thanks so much! I really appreciate this board!

Sincerely
Christine

Hi your not supposed to eat cheese that has more than 6 grams of fat in it. I buy mine from marsh, trader joes, and wild oats.

I get mine from Safeway.
You're not suppose to eat regular fat cheese. But I blew it last night and ate the top off of two peices of pizza.:hide:

Christine,

Just to remind you...SBD doesn't count carbs. Cheese does have saturated fat, so regular is not recommended. As a condiment, a little regular cheese could be used (like Parmesan cheese sprinkled as a topping). That would be about 1-2 TBSP per day.

For some people, too much cheese can be a "diet-buster".

I tend to eat too much cheese. So I buy the Kraft packages of 2% fat shredded cheese.

I would never want to offend you, but next time you're at the super Walmart, look for lower fat cheeses again. That's where I buy mine. Perhaps you overlooked them at your Walmart. Sometimes I feel lost in those big super Walmarts! I also buy them at Scnucks and Shop and Save. I don't know if you have those stores in your area though. But, I should think that you could be able to find some low fat cheeses since SB is so big now. If not, you might be able to talk the store manager into carrying some in the future.

I don't do fat free but I buy Kraft 2% cheeses and I like them just fine. I've even been able to find low fat crumbled Feta that I use in salads with SB Italian dressing. Yum!

Good luck!

The Kraft 2% cheddar is very yummy. And It comes in shredded, block, and 1 oz rectangular sticks, so they can be used any which way. Low fat feta crumbes are also so yummy. Sometimes I'll use a tablespoon of full fat blue cheese crumbles and/or a tablespoon of shavings from a hard parmesan block as a condiment like Nancy suggested.

Default Cheese *flash*

I did the same thing at Walmart as Christine although I also found low fat ricotta. Im like Nancy with the cheese so maybe its just as well to avoid temptation. I think occasional Parmesian sprinkle will help if I hit a veggie boredom day.

The gram thing can be confusing. So is 2% fat (which Ive seen before) a safe bet regarding the grams?

Also, I keep thinking of string cheese or ricotta as dairy but I remember reading its something else.
