| I don't think those have been OK when I've looked at them. We really need to read the labels & ingredients in the beginning. Here are some SBD hot dog guidelines: Hot dogs OK in Phase 2. All hot dogs (beef, poultry, pork, soy) may be enjoyed occasionally (once a week) if at least 97% fat free (3-6 Gms fat per serving) BTW, Here are SBD guidelines for lean meat: per 100 Gm (3.5 ounces): 10 Gms or less total fat 4.5 Gms or less saturated fat per 1 ounce: 3 Gms total fat 1 Gm saturated fat | ||||||||||

| Thank you and I appreciate then numbers. Im kind of avoiding beef because the ones Ive preferred are high fat (ribeye, fajita, ribs) plus Ive had luck preparing leaner cuts not being dry/tough. I have the lowest fat ground beef (ground sirloin?). My previous fatter method was cooked with veg-all which basically was flavored by fat. Veg-all is quite innocent, so Im going to try it with this leaner ground plus will be draning the fat. Will probably up the spices as well. Im comfortable seeing the fat ratio on the packaging and know it cooks up moist. Im hoping to find other simple ideas. | ||||||||||

| Good to know Lynn because all low fat foods are not created equal. Well, I wasnt thinking on the Veg-all. I forgot about the peas, corn, and potatoe pieces so I id just ground beef with a side of snap pea. Funny when your not cooking it in oil and its not the low fat ground, draining wasnt an issue. | ||||||||||

| sun, In case you didn't see this thread, it has more guidelines for ground beef. In Phase 1, you can have some low fat turkey sausage & soy-based hot dogs/patties. http://www.sbdbb.com/showthread.php?t=162 Yes, I realize that in Texas those might not go over that well at first! :jester: | ||||||||||

| Speaking of meat substitutes, I really like Bocca burgers. I didn't care for the Morningstar Farms soy sausage though. I found some turkey sausage in a roll that I really like at the Super Walmart last time I was there. I used it for breakfast a couple of mornings and then I cooked some in some cabbage the other night for dinner. It's white meat turkey and low in fat and had a really good flavor to it. I can't recall the name brand right now though. :Bang: | |||||||||||
