Default Phase 2 Starts Today!

I made it through Phase 1 and truly it was not that bad! And I lost 6 pounds! And I was never hungry! I am psyched!

So, now I get to add foods back in, but I'm going to listen to those who have done this before and been around a long time and I'm going to add things back slower than is suggested in the book. In fact, today my addition is carrots. I have missed being able to have them. That sounds weird to me, but it's the truth. When I was writing down my foods for the next day I often wanted to make my plate more colorful and couldn't think of a way without carrots. I mean, most veggies are green. I'd have tomatoes and red peppers on my salad at lunch, but at dinner - well, it was mostly green. My plate will look beautiful tonight!

Lots to do today, but wanted to join up with this thread before I started my day.

Wink please keep us updated

i would love to hear how it goes. i applaud you for not being hungry in phase one. i have definitely had some hungry times. mostly when i'm out with my kids at their sporting events and haven't packed a safe snack. and in the evening when the family is having treats and i'm ....sipping crystal light.

Congrats and good luck with the transition!!

Just a reminder though that carrots are added under veggies in the P2 list, so they are just an expanded veggie in P2, not a whole grain, starchy veggie or a fruit. So you still have the option of adding something from one of those categories in along with the carrots.

Oh, cool! Red, you are so helpful. Thanks so much for taking the time to clarify that. I did think yesterday that having carrots was my "instead" of a grain or fruit kind of thing. I will look over the lists again, as I think I'm a little muddled about it all.

And thanks for the well-wishes!

Good luck Jilly. Phase II will be a breeze knowing that you thought Phase I wasn't too difficult. Introduce the new food items slowly. Good Luck

Thumbs up

Thanks, John!

I thought I'd post a little update here to say that it is going well. I am on my 9th day of Phase 2. I continue to plan my food out each night. It's just become a good habit and I will continue with it as long as it continues to work well for me. I am also still going very slowly with adding fruits, starchy veggies, and grains in. Usually it's just one or maybe two a day between all three. Yesterday I had oat bran for breakfast, an apple at lunch and spaghetti squash at dinner. Today, only an apple at lunch. This morning as I was fixing breakfast I realized I didn't have a grain at breakfast. It was just like a Phase 1 breakfast, and it was fine. I am satisfied.

I'm staying off the scales until next Monday (every two weeks is my plan for scale obsession reduction), so I took my measurements instead this morning. I've dropped an inch from my waist, 1/2 an inch from my hips, an inch from my arms and an inch and a half from my thighs! That's incentive enough to keep me going for a while!

Default jillybean!

Thank you so much for the update. I can relate so much to your posts (you were deciding to "put away" your scale about the same day i was getting COMPLETELY discouraged because of a weight fluxuation in Phase 1). It is hard to describe how much it helps to read that someone is going through the same challenge--be it food or weight or activity related. Thanks for posting your thoughts.

Today is day 15 for me on South Beach. I am starting Phase II. I do not have the urge to continue Phase I because I really miss fruit. I miss the feeling of feeling like I am getting vitamins when I eat an apple or orange. I know intellectually that veggies are just as vitamin packed. But, it is the season for grapefruit and oranges!

If you get a chance (or some other recent Phase II person) can you mention whether you ran into any cravings when you started re-introducing fruit? I don't want to wake the sugar beast--I do not crave chips at all anymore, but i still have thoughts of longing when it comes to chocolate and sugar. I am going to be very careful the next two weeks.

Thanks
have a great wednesday

Thumbs up cravings

Hi! I'm early Phase II. I don't have sweet cravings; but I did have chip cravings and ate them one night (then, forgave myself and went back on program). I just feel so much better eating this way. Losing weight is important too, but I also like being without those 'eat, eat, eat!' cravings. For sweet/chocolate; does plain cocoa with Splenda work for you? Best to you! dayna.
(I have a blog that I post to every week). Love this site and big thanks to Tom for making it work so well!).
