Default Long time, No post (and a ? at the end)

Hi everyone. It has been way too long since I have posted. I just got so busy with life that I unfortunately did not make the time to update.
So..................... I have been doing SB since September and I have lost about 23 pounds, which I am very happy with! I have had to buy all new clothes and it seems that soon I will need to buy a smaller size! Its all good though. : )
I noticed that when I was in a clothes store that I actually felt that I "deserved" to be in there shopping and that it was so nice to be able to fit into clothes and look good in them! I have gone from a size 14 that was getting tight to almost an 8. Yahoo!
In addition my husband has been doing SB with me and has lost 25 pounds!
I have also been successful at changing over our entire pantry to whole grains and whole wheat. I say "successful" b/c we have three teenage daughters, one of whom is very picky. But they all like it now and do not complain at all. We always ate a lot of whole grains but now the pasta and the bread are only whole wheat. I have found whole wheat bread crumbs, whole wheat couscous and whole wheat orzo. So it really has become a lifestyle change for our family.

I would like to lose another 16 pounds and then we will see. I am glad that it is coming off slow because it seems like its going to be more permanent that way.
I will try to post more often now but have been checking in from time to time for inspiration and to see everyone's progress.
I hope everyone had a nice holiday season and keep up the great work.

Now for my question.
Sometimes I wonder if I am eating enough and was just wondering what exactly a portion size is for something like a slice of bread. We have breads that are low calorie and 100% whole grain/whole wheat and we have breads that are 100% whole grain/whole wheat that are a regular size piece of bread. Can someone tell me how many grams of carbs would be considered a serving of bread? For example, the bread we have now has 43 calories per slice and 7.7 carbs and another one we have is 46 calories per slice and 9.6 carbs.

Thanks so much.

Andrea

A serving of bread should be one ounce (roughly 28 grams) and should contain 3 grams of fiber. I am not aware of any carb restrictions, but you wouldn't want a sweet bread.

that's true for all grains as well. It's a nutritional thing, not necessarily a SB thing. 1 oz is a serving size. It applies to pasta, bread, cereals and so forth.

Some resources from the government's food pyramid site here:
