If you can't break the scale habit, get rid of it. I don't weight myself, but go by how my clothes fit. Weight can go up and doown all day. Or ffrom day to day.

I, too am married to my scale. I weigh myself daily, sometimes more. The only difference is that I don't get worked up over what it says ever. I think it is funny to see how much I weigh after I eat or to see how much I lose from bedtime to morning. It is kind of like a game to me. It also helps me see what foods affect me more.

I would just say, if you can't get rid of it, that's ok just don't live by it. It is just a number. If you are doing everything right and you know it, the scale may not realize it yet!

First, let me say I am really new to SB, I have not recieved my book, so I am not sure what it says about weighing yourself. However, here are my thoughts in general.

I have a Wii and it tells you to check in everyday (which weighs you). Now, one thing it does say is that your weight can fluctuate throughout the day by 2 lbs. So, if you are going to check your weight everyday, just realize that you should not let a fluctuation stress you. Also, try to check it at the same time, with the same clothes.

Now, as far as not wanting to check it everyday. Maybe set up a challenge for yourself. Such as, if I do not check the scale but once a week for three months, I will buy myself those 'shoes' that I like. Of course, shoes can be anything. ... Then mark a calendar everytime you weigh yourself.

Personally, I think the weighing yourself everyday will work differently for different people. Some people will use the weight fluctuation as a challenge to do better. Others will become discouraged by it. You know yourself, if it hinders your progress, then stop using it. (It really is as easy as that). If it does not hinder your progress, then why does it matter?

Great advise LosingtNow!!! I have a Wii Fit as well and I'm sure it is in the process of trying to crawl out from under the couch itself since I've been a slacker (I did start the treadmill today though).

Obsessing over the scale can be a good thing (if its a motivator) or a bad thing (if its a discourager).

To bad we can't pile it up with clothing (like our excersize equipment). Would make it harder to use!!!

Had to chuckle...

This morning's Daily Dish from SouthBeach.com

"How to Stress Less About the Scale"

Daily Dish
How to Stress Less About the Scale

Do you weigh yourself every day? Do you worry about even the slightest change in your weight? If you answered "yes" to either of these questions, you may be obsessing over the scale — and if you're trying to maintain healthy habits, this behavior can actually be counterproductive.

The truth is, your weight may change from day to day for many reasons. Fluid retention, hormonal fluctuations, constipation, and even the food you ate right before stepping on the scale can cause daily ups and downs. These variations can be misleading and worrisome if you don't understand them. For an accurate measurement of your weight, weigh yourself only once each week and on the same scale every time (different scales may give different readings). An even better method of measuring your success is to let your belt be your guide. If your clothes fit better and you feel better, then you're getting healthier — even if the bathroom scale doesn't show big changes.

Ultimately, it's up to you to stop scale obsession. Weight loss takes time, so patience is required. Dr. Agatston, preventive cardiologist and author of The South Beach Diet Supercharged, says, "It's a marathon, not a sprint." Remember, if you're practicing weight-healthy habits like those recommended by the South Beach Diet, you will enjoy better health, and the extra pounds will come off in the process — whether you step on the scale every day or never again.

I dont know how some people do it. I bought a scale and in three days had drove myself nuttier then a fruit cake.. I took it back and am loving the stress free feeling of it... with a womans body andt he fluctuations it was almost drepressing to weight after eating so I just stopped.. ill content myself with watching my jeans get baggier n baggier...

I have to agree with CocoMelody.

I haven't had a scale in over a year and I feel much better about myself. I gage a weight gain/loss by how my clothes fit. I almost broke down and bought one last week because Target was having a sale on scales. I resisted the urge. My significant other told me I was buying the S-cale since it was on S-ale Maybe he was right.

Living scale free throught weight ups and downs
