Default Found in local stores...

I have been able to find this bread in the freezer section of ingles, food lion and publix. Sometimes can even find the hamburger buns of the same variety. Hope this helps.

Why is it kept in the freezer section?

I'm guessing because there are probably less preservatives and by allowing the grains to germinate and sprout, the resulting "flour" is more alive and active and subject to spoilage than a dried grain would be.

Hi,

I have been on SB for 3 weeks now. I am very pleased at the rate that I am losing, because I am a slow loser.

I have purchased Ezekial 4:9 Sprouted Grain Bread at my local grocery store in the organic section. Most times it is in the freezer which makes it good because you can take out a few slices at a time and keep the rest frozen.

I am excited to be a part of your group.

Jean

Default Ezekial 4:9 Sprouted Grain Bread

I have found this bread in the regular grocery store in the organic section in the freezer which is nice because you can take out small amounts out at a time.

(I still argue over their use of the word "flourless"!) Fiber is 3 gms or more per slice, a slice is very close to the nutritional serving size of 1 oz (approx 30 gms), there is no HFCS and sugars are less than the fiber. While the presence of honey and molasses appears to be "problematical" there can't be much in there if there is less than 0.5 gms per slice for them to be able to say "0 gms" of sugars on the nutritional panel. Also the corn and millet (not SB friendly grains in general) are so far down the list as to not be a particular issue either.

While the rest of the info is useful in general, I left only those items that are really essential for choosing SB friendly breads and underlined the important values and terms.
RedRox, I appreciate you taking the time to explain this. I have often wondered about this bread, but have never tried it. I will have to be sure and pick up a loaf next time I see it. I have really struggled finding SBD acceptable breads in the stores in our area, so I have just avoided it.

Can someone tell me if this bread has glutin in it? I have a strange reaction to glutin and have had to cut out all flour and wheat based breads. Thanks.

I am guessing since they have a separate section of their website devoted to their gluten free breads and products and it does not include Ezekiel bread, that it probably does have gluten because it has wheat, sprouted or not.

I've found because of the lack of preservatives it has the potential of going bad really quick... two methods to make it stretch (if you feel like your losing to much bread to spoilage)...

take 1/4 or 1/2 the loaf, toss it in a ziplock and throw it in the freezer leaving the other half to thaw for later use

Or throw the whole loaf in the freezer and take out only what you need. If you are toasting it, no need to thaw. If you are going straight from frozen to use, wrap in a paper towel and nuke on high for 10-15 seconds. Gets it nice and warm.

I had to learn this because the place were I found the bread only gets small amounts at a time and they are never sure what they are going to get from the distributor. So I buy as much of what I am after and use it straight out of the freezer.
