Default Drinking wine on Phase 2

Why is it better to drink a glass of wine with a meal rather than alone? I am going back to Phase 2 after eating off program and if I could have one glass of wine on Friday and perhaps Saturday nights, that would give me something fun to look forward to after a hard week. Is the idea to have something other than just the alcohol being metabolized - would a piece of cheese or some other protein work? Thanks!

Yeah I think that's the case/reason. You metabolize it more slowly with food than all by itself. Plus it's more social and may tend to slow the meal down and make it more relaxed which also aids digestion.
