Hi Everybody!

I am moving on to phase 2 now after 3 weeks of phase 1 and I am afraid! I have been doing so good on phase 1 only little slip up was yesterday when I had pizza, but I only had 1 slice. I am afraid I will eat the wrong stuff. I just want to stay on phase 1!!! How do you guys ease into it?

Hello I did the same thing as you stayed on Phase 1 for 3 weeks, well sense i had been so "Good" for 3 weeks, I allowed myself to binge on sugar at the Fathers Day Picnic, got right back on track the next day and then this past weekend I allowed myself to binge again.

I would say don't stay on Phase 1 longer than you have to, it just gets rid of what excess water you are carrying and gets rid of your cravings if you do it perfectly. Read the stickies in Phase II and slowly add back in your carbs as it suggests and you'll do fine.

Good luck!!

I agree that moving to Phase Two is scarey. What I really need to know....and you can call me stupid if you want......but where (if in the books) is how many carbs a day or a meal are we allowed to have on phase 2?

If someone could answer this, I would really appreciate it.

I'm not sure I am eating correctly because I am afraid of the carbs.

Thanks,
Shesserene

Hey, Mary Jane!

I'm certainly not going to call you stupid! No question is a stupid question...

If you have the SB Supercharged book, which is the one that I have, the suggestions for moving to Phase 2 begin on page 250. It is strongly suggested that you add in grains and fruit slowly. This is what my book says: For the first week (Days 1-7), add one starch and one piece of fruit a day. Day 8, add 2 starches and 1 fruit; Day 9, 2 starches and 2 fruit; Days 10 and 11, 3 starches and 2 fruit; and Days 12, 13, and 14, 3 starches and 3 fruit. That's what the book suggests.

However, I think that's just too fast to add them back in. I was like you and very hesitant to add them in and start cravings again. I began the first week with either a fruit or a starch, but not both in one day. And not at breakfast. I am in my 7th week (including Phase 1, so my 5th week of Phase 2), and I still only eat about 3, maybe 4, total starch and fruit in a day. I have not had any cravings doing it this way. And I figure this is a lifelong commitment, so what's the rush?

I'd also suggest that you choose wisely in the beginning. I haven't had banana, pineapple or watermelon yet. I have not had whole wheat pasta or bread, either. And I always have protein with it.

So, I encourage you to start adding grain and fruit when you get to Phase 2, because I think we need them. They help a great deal with "regularity", and give us energy and brain power. Just do it slowly, and you'll be fine.

Good luck!

Default great advice jilly

as a side note:
When you do add back starches or fruits, you may find a heightened sense of flavor and or enjoyment.

that has been my experience
also decreased portion size equals quashed appetite.

all good news

i think I have my whole office hooked on grapefruit now. It was the first and only fruit i have added back in phase 2. It is a fragrant beast!

There are never any actual "carb counts" on this program in terms of # of grams of carbs in any of the phases. Actually even in P1 you should have been having lots of good carbs all along. Your body and particularly your brain really need "carbs" to operate efficiently and optimally. So no reason to be afraid of them at all! P2 SB eating does work on servings of both fruits and starches in addition to the allowed carbs in P1 (basically dairy, beans and veggies). Ideally the goal is to work up to 2-3 servings of both the allowed fruits and starches over 4-6 weeks in P2 and play around with what levels and timings seem to work best for you. The food lists and the meal models here in the sticky threads are really helpful IMO to figure out how to put it all together into a coherent daily type of menu. If you are still confused after reviewing those resources, give us a shout and we'll see what we can do to help get you on track from there!

Default Thanks for the Carbs....:-)

All of you really answered my question. Excellent clarification. To Date I have had some whole wheat pasta with a protein for dinner and the only fruit I have had is an occasional apple. I had 1/2 of a banana with some Steel Cut Oats for breakfast. I think I am doing okay and have lost some weight but trying to focus more on healthy eating and healthy choices.
Thank you again and I am so glad I have found this forum.
