Thumbs up 15.5 lbs. lost on the beach in February

And now they're advising me at The South Beach Diet official website that I might want to slow it down because I'm losing too quickly! :joy:

I'm doing it by eating the SB way (2 snacks, 3 meals, and a dessert) and by only eating until I'm physically satisfied. And believe me, it took awhile before I got that worked out because I'm an emotional eater and I tend to have problems with binge eating. I've been eating healthy carbs and healthy fats and normal sized portions. And I do not feel hungry on this plan! I eat whole wheat breads, bagels, cereals, and old fashioned oats. I eat healthy fats and eggs and lean meats. I can have fruits and yogurt and lots of veggies. And I can have them much earlier than if I were to climb rungs on a carb ladder. And I can have pizza on whole wheat crust!

The hardest and most restrictive part is the first 2 weeks and not rushing to add too many carbs back too quickly at the end of phase one. I had to learn to do it slowly. And it seems to be working for me. I see this as being a really healthy way of eating and something that I can stay with forever. I can see myself making this a lifestyle change.

I know I've still got a long road ahead of me, but I'm very optimistic and motivated. Thanks to all who have shown me support in the past. I apreciate it more than you'll ever know. :Hug2:

You have given me hope my friend! We've both been struggling for so long! I am so glad that you started SB and peaked my interest! Maybe I'll have some success as well, once I get my SB hat straight on my little pointed head! :speechless:

After reading your struggle for so long over 3 boards now!! I am so proud of you and inspired by you. This is such an achievement. Maybe the folks at SB think you are still on Phase 1 and you are not!!!! Looks like you found your golden ticket!!!!:Hug2:

Thanks everyone for your nice comments.

The SB site thinks that 1-2 pounds a week is a safer, longer lasting way to lose weight. I think that one concern about losing weight too quickly is that it starts seeming like a crash diet instead of a long term lifestyle change.

I read some statistics somewhere once and I can't remember where it was but I copied it down.
Quote:
9 out of 10 dieters will regain their weight within 1 year of losing it. Out of those, 2 out of 3 will regain their weight within 3-5 years. This is true of any weight loss regimen. And this is where we all have to get our brains in order and start treating our obesity like the chronic disease it really is.
People who lose the weight slow and steady and make lifestyle changes have the best shot at keeping the weight off.

But, I'm thrilled with losing the 15 pounds since January 31st. when I decided to give this an honest go of it. It's quite an incentive to keep going. For me, a lot of the business of losing weight is mental. I need to keep my head on straight and keep my eyes on the prize.

Coming to this board is helping me to stay focused and moivated. I hope that more people will join us here and the board will grow.

I consider their response ironic, considering the book promotes that you will lose 8-13 pounds in the first 2 weeks! But your weight loss is bound to slow down at some point.

I think you are doing a marvelous job. What is more important (IMHO) is that you are beginning to eat more regularly which smoothes out your blood sugar and should help you with emotional eating. THAT is fabulous!:Love Doctor:

Congratulations! I wonder if the site is taking into effect all the changes that they have made to the diet over time. I find it kind of interesting that with all the changes that they make, the weight loss amounts seem to stay the same. If the changes are supposed to improve the diet it would just make sense to me that the effectiveness would also increase. I have lost 11 pounds in the past 12 days. That is much more than the first time I was on phase one but it is almost an entirely different diet now. As far as I am concearned the sooner I get this weight off the better! If I would you I would be upset with them. Here you have made this increadible accomplishment and they are telling you not to do such a good job. What the hell is their problem? Also the 15lbs seems to be right within the range that they tell you to expect in the first month. Unless they are purpusly trying to mislead us I don't see what the problem is. once again good job!

Wow Charlotte, I didn't realize they had changed the plan so drastically? actually I haven't looked into it enough to realize they had changed it at all LOL.

What aspects did they change so much?

From what I remember, Dairy was not limited and neither were tomatoes. But the bigggest difference was that legumes and beans were not allowed. Oh yah, green peas were. This was for phase one. On paper this may not seem like much, but believe me, when you are actually on the diet the changes are huge! At least they are for me. Beans have saved me on phase 1 this time, and I think that the limit on dairy is why I lost so much weight this time around. I can't find my old book, but theese are the major changes that I remember off the top of my head. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.
