| Alvarado St. Bakery brand www.alvaradostreetbakery.com First ingredient: Sprouted Organic Whole Wheat Berries 100% Whole Grain 3 Grams Fiber 3 Grams Sugar No added oil No flour At health food stores Warmed up a little, it has a sourdough flavor (maybe because it has Cultured Wheat?) Not warm it's a bit flavorless. But satisfying & no craving or weight gain so far! Maybe this is like the Ezekial bread which is also OK, which is also made from sprouted grains. | P.S. Whoops...The name of the bread is the above title without "Good" ("Sprouted Whole Wheat Bread"). Others I looked at sounded good but don't work beause only 2 Gms Fiber. | ||||||||||

| I found a bread called "Whole heat Soy Loaf", two slices contain 3 grams of Fat, 7 grams of fibre and 3 grams of sugar. Ingredients are: whole wheat flour, water, soy flour, raisin juice, wheat germ, white vingar. You get this bread at the Superstore here in Canada and it's only 1.99 | ||||||||||

| Some other breads I've found that meet the guidelines: There are a few at Trader Joe's, their own brand (We always need to carefully check Nutrition Facts and list of ingredients for each bread. Not all meet guidelines.) At Whole Foods, Trader Joe's & other hf stores: "Ezekial 4:9" (sometimes in freezer or refrigerator section) Last edited by nancy; 08-10-2006 at 02:52 PM. | ||||||||||

| Unfortunately, my husband tossed the bread bag, but Natural Ovens of manitowoc (Wisconsin) has a number of high fiber, low net carb breads and cereals. Their products may not be much available outside their local area because there are no preservatives. I don't think they use high fructose corn syrup--as I recall, they have whole wheat, whole millet, flax seed, etc. There's also a hot cereal called REd River that has whole grains and flax seed and doesn't take forever to cook. I love steel cut oats, but I don't always have the time to cook in the morning before work. I'll post the official carb and fiber content of these the next time I have the labels in front of me. | ||||||||||

| Guys keep in mind that this is NOT a low carb diet. It is not necessary to eat low carb breads and they tend to taste bad too. Just find a whole grain/ whole wheat bread with no less than 3 grams of dietary fiber and no high fructose corn syrup. It is not necessary to get a very high fiber bread. Don't sacrifice flavor for real high fiber. Plus those are sort of frankenfood breads. Do you know that the jury is out on soy flour? There have been articles claiming that it is not as healthy as you think. Soy in it's pure form like soy beans is healthy but once you process the soy, it becomes carcinogenic. So really, don't go the low carb route. (And I say this having been an Atkineer for years). I'm not bashing low carb, just the low carb bread products. | ||||||||||
