Oops, I thought what I was doing was anonymous. I think I'm too new to officially "nominate" something, but since it's done I might as well say why I liked the post. I love the honest caring. If I need a reminder that my thinking is out in left field sometime, (please realize, sd, that this is about me) I hope someone with a lot of experience tells me so before I fall flat on my face. I think I will probably need some "straight talk" before I reach my goals and I think it's encouraging to know there is someone here (and hopefully will be for a long time) that will do that for me when the time comes. Again, sorry if I overstepped my bounds...

Jilly Bean I need some straight talk right now. I had an absolutely horrible week. I went to this meeting and although I started out really well, as each day and night progressed I got a more and more off plan. Right now I am sitting here wondering why in the world that happened and trying to find out in my own my mind why it did and deciding what I will do next time I am put in this position. The hardest thing is figuring out how to stay on plan when you are responsible for a team at a meeting. The expectation is to have social time with your team including dinners out etc. Also there are not enough healthy choices to chose from for lunches, dinners, snacks etc. There were no grocery stores nearby, no car to drive somewhere and every moment and meal planned for you the whole time. Finally I just gave up and decided I would get back on track when I got home and could take control again. I am sure that I put many, many lbs. on this past week because working out and food choices were just not good. Lesson is being learned right now. I will be back at SBD tomorrow.

Sometimes doing the best you can do is the best you can do! Practice self-compassion and keep moving forward. It's not a perfection based program. There will always be speedbumps and detours. As long as we know the ultimate direction we're headed in, we can keep moving in that direction. Sounds like you learned something and thought about what can be done differently in the future perhaps. Those are good things in and of themselves.

this is for jar. I'm new to the forum so I hope I don't step on anyones toes. I've a second timer with south beach so I hope I can give you some advice. One thing I found with meeting or social gatherings if you can have a little bit of input with what is being served you can be ahead of the game. I work long hours in nursing and my coworkers are like another family especially around holdays. We always have celebrations for showers, birthdays ect. I always volunteer to bring salads, south beach casseroles ect so I can stay on plan. I just have to use a little will power to steer myself away from the cake or sweets but you can do it. When we go out to a restaurant, I can either have the grilled chicken or steak even if they have to do mine special without the sauce or cheese. When it comes to ordering the side dish they usually have no problems putting on double broccoli

Paintedbliss thanks for the helpful hints. I will do what you suggest. I find I am most successful if I can have input on where we go to dinner so I have taken that step. One other thing I have been doing is when I don't have the right choices due to what is being served I just cut my portions way, way down and then keep my exercise going. The other thing I am getting better at is if I do make a choice that is not the best is to not let it sabatoge my whole day. So far things are working better.
