Lightbulb Thanksgiving

"Mornin'. Kind of a rough afternoon yesterday. Didn't stick to the plan, but I didn't eat anything with sugar or flour, so that is a huge plus. And I didn't feel good last night - physically or emotionally - so I hope it will be a lesson learned. Today is a new day and I'd like to leave that in the past. (It wasn't a binge, either, but just not the best choices, in case you're wondering...)

"I have tomorrow's plan all made out. I think I will be tired tonight (lots to do today) and I didn't want to leave it to chance or to being tired and not caring tonight. I do care and I want to not feel deprived, yet I want to stick to SB as much as possible. I'm making the usual dishes for the family and modifying most of them for me. It will mean some extra work, but I am worth it! I want to feel good when the day is done. I will ask for help to get theirs on the table and I will take responsibility for mine.

"I am thankful for the willingness to do this. I'm not going to fool myself and say it will be easy. But it will be worth it."

I posted that in my blog, but edited out today's food plan and wanted to start a thread here. Does everyone have a plan in place for tomorrow? I have found that planning is crucial for me. If I didn't have a plan, I would be eating right along with the rest of the family. "It's Thanksgiving, don't I get to pig out like 95% of Americans (just a number I pulled out of the air, I really have no idea how many it will be...) tomorrow?" Well, yes, I have the right to if that's what I really want. But, if I flood my body with all those fats and carbs, back will come all the cravings. I'll feel guilt when it's all over and done. I'll be mad at myself. I'll regret.

I won't regret, on Friday morning, the fact that I chose to eat in a manner that will keep me on the path of losing this excess weight. I'm planning ahead to avoid having the-day-after regrets. Anybody going to join me? Feel free to post your plans for tomorrow here. I'll be posting mine here later in the day.

Jilly, I'm sorry you had a bad day yesterday but it sounds like you kept things in control. We all have our bad days but ultimately we are responsible for what goes in our mouth and though at the time a binge might seem like a good idea to calm our nerves you will regret later.
Tomorrow I too have been making plans and modifying some recipes that I know I will be eating. I will post my plan later too, very busy today in the kitchen.

I posted this on TOB, but my current plan is to go to a donation based power yoga class at noon (to support the local food bank) and we go to friends' in the late afternoon. They are generally healthy eaters, although the woman once stated to me, "Oh I couldn't do SB, I love my carbs too much!". LOL! So do I sister, so do I! (I still don't understand that comment really, just find it funny and associate it with her. I think she means chocolate cake and brownies as critically important carb sources however!) Anyway, we are bringing some whole grain rolls (from great harvest) and veggies, but the plan is just to eat more of the veggies and turkey, limit the stuffing, gravy and dessert and just enjoy the day and continue to be thankful for good friends, my wonderful wife and children and all the other blessings in my life!

Have a good one all!!

Here's my day planner for tomorrow. I got most of my cooking done today except for the bird and a few things that are ready to go into the over the last hour of the prep time. We always go for a morning horseback ride my girls and a few friends we have coming early in the morning. We just had about 5 inches of snow the last couple of days so it will be a nice ride. I love riding my horse in the snow. I live near a state park so we will ride for about 5 miles before heading home. Dh will put the bird in while I am out, it is all ready to go. When we get back I just will put the other dishes in and relax with the rest of our guests. I did make appetizers but plan on putting out a fruit and veggie/lf cheese tray so I won't be tempted. I made my sausage and sage stuffing with no butter, added ff chicken broth and whole wheat and wholegrain bread versus the white and sub turkey sausage for the pork. I also paln on being very skimpy with the stuffing, no gravy. I have lots of veggies I plan on eating and bought whole grain rolls. I did make the desserts with a combination of splenda and sugar but plan to be eating my sb pumpkin mousse.

My plan tomorrow is a tad lighter breakfast than usual, a deviled egg and stuffed celery at snack time, "the meal" which will consist of turkey (sans gravy and stuffing), mashed cauliflower (instead of mashed white potato), broccoli (instead of peas and carrots), 4 oz. sweet potato (instead of squash), 1/3 C. cranberry sauce that I just made with Splenda. For a snack later I will have SB pumpkin cheesecake and a glass of 1% milk. Dinner later will be the same as lunch without the sweet potato. Possibly another small slice of pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. This is more food than I have been eating, but it's all SB friendly stuff and I will not feel deprived, which is key for me right now.

Have a great day, everyone!

Hello Everyone...hope you had a wonderful day! The day isn't over yet but so far so good. I made it through dinner with no stuffing or rolls & the world didn't come to an end hehe...I have come to realize that I have to be in a certain frame of mind to succeed on this plan. I have to stay focused & plan ahead or I will lose it. This morning I reminded myself...this is not my last meal ...Its not like I will never eat stuffing again...maybe next year, maybe not...I told myself that I didn't want that Yucky, tired, sleepy, feeling that I get after I eat bread & sugar. And be starving again 30 minutes later and then repeat the process. Now if I can just psyche myself up so I can make it through the rest of the Holidays! To be honest I will be glad when its all over!
