Default 10 pm

Is 10pm too late for a snack?

I do:
Breakfast 8am
snack 11am
Lunch 1-1:30pm
snack 4-4:30pm
Dinner 7pm

Im just not a dessert person, and I really don't want to start that habit unless I can be covinced it is imperitive to do so...But, I do tend to want a snack around 10pm...(I turn in around 11-12pm). I used to do the whole poptart or bowl of cereal thing, but for now I am really, REALLY, loving the sugar free jello with a half cup non-fat cottage cheese.

Is this ok? I know that somewhere in time Ive learned that eating too close to bedtime is a no-no....but South Beach seems to be full of all kinds of cool "exceptions" and suprises, so Im really hoping I get to keep my 10pm "yummy".

Also, on the jello....Ive been using the "cups" bought at the store. Is it better to prepare it from the box? Is there a "processed" issue with the cups that wouldn't apply to the box type?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice.

I like the cups because of portion control, If I make a whole bowl of jello I am likely to eat the whole bowl but if I buy the six pack of single serve ones I know I will only eat one at at time.

The general recommendation is to eat something every 2-3 hours to help keep your blood sugars more stable and to avoid feeling overly hungry so you start reaching for off plan items just to satisfy those hunger feelings.

The jello with cottage cheese at 10 is a good idea. Cottage cheese is a good quality protein so this is a healthy, nutritious snack, not just a sweet treat. And eating something then will give your body fuel to work with overnight as it does all of it's "preventive maintenance" work! And again keep blood sugars more stable overnight, so you aren't necessarily quite as depeleted in the morning.

There is no scientific evidence that eating a healthy snack close to bedtime has any effect on weight gain or weight loss. We kind of process food continually and while our bodies slow down at night, they are still doing things that need energy. It's really more about total calories in vs. total calories out over time, not just in arbitrary 24 hour time periods we like to think of as days and nights.

I don't know about the pre-made vs. the make your own for the jello. I know in P2, only the SF/FF boxes for Pudding that you make yourself are allowed/preferred as the pre-made pudding cups have added stuff that make them less acceptable. I don't know if that applies to the jello too or not.

Post an ingredient list or compare ingredients against the make your own and see what see that might be problematical.

We make our own from the boxed jello and pudding mixes. They make four 1/2 cup servings in little parfait glassware we bought just for such a purpose. It's also WAY less expensive this way!

So glad to hear that different things work for different people. I am learning that for my own food addiction individual servings mean I wont eat more then one.
