| I'm confused as to what Splenda does to our diet . In the book on the glycemic index maltodextrin is equivalent to maltose 150 the highest on the gi index .. ingredients in splenda are Maltodextrin, sucralose. How could this be ok for us to use ? I realize it has zero calories but how does it effect us using the GI as a guide ??? I don’t use a lot of it but do have it occasionally ... Seriously confused Lucy | ||||||||||

| crazy isn't it? I think it has to do with quantities and glycemic load (GI per the amount ingested) vs. just looking at the glycemic index. And splenda doesn't have 0 calories either, just 0 calories per serving. There are 96 calories in a cup for instance. Used in moderation like you do, it should neither spike blood sugars, nor contribute to weight gain. | |||||||||||
