| Hi all, I was once 340 pounds, which sounds like a lot of weight, but I was proportional in having a 6'-3" large frame. My wife and I started the diet when she was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and high cholesterol. We've been on the diet since January 2005- really serious at first, but off & on since. I am now down to a much leaner 235-238 pounds, and she has lost more than 50 pounds herself. I actually got all the way down to 229, but with me working out and weight training, I have bumped back up a little bit into the mid-230s. I have been on a hard plateau in the 230s for almost two years now. I would really like to get down to 220-225, as this last 10-15 pounds is the hardest for my body to let go. I have restarted the diet several times and would lose a pound or two in the first two weeks, but that would be it. I think at this point, it is strictly calories in-calories out for me. That, or maybe my body is completely used to the South Beach Diet, and needs something new and different to trick it into letting go of more fat. I have also picked up running and biking as hobbies. I actually bike commute to work when the weather isn't too bad or too cold, or if I do not have any meetings or have to teach those days. I live about 3-1/4 miles away from my gym & office downtown, so it only takes me 15-18 minutes to bike it- generally quicker than having to drive, park, then walk. I ran my first ever 5K last December and finished it in 26:47 minutes, being in the top 200 out of 2,000 runners. My life is indeed changed! Cheers, Daniel | ||||||||||
